Storytelling and revenue operations
In RevOps I work a lot with democratizing data and making it available for the right stakeholders. But to make it more of a strategic tool, creating charts isn’t enough. I need to be able to draw their attention to the right details and guide them through the data in an insightful and actionable way. That’s where storytelling comes into the picture
So what is storytelling?
Storytelling is the art of crafting a narrative that connects facts, emotions, and context to create meaning. It transforms raw data or insights into compelling messages that resonate with an audience. By framing challenges, solutions, and outcomes in a relatable way, storytelling drives understanding and action.
How to write a good story
So what do you need to write a story, try too keep the following in mind
The hook: Start with a compelling insight. What’s surprising, urgent, or impactful?
The context: Provide background. What’s happening, and why does it matter?
This is of course contextual, try to keep in mind who you’re presenting it to and adapt the level of context need to your audience.
The conflict: Frame the problem or opportunity. Where are the gaps?
The resolution: Present the solution. What steps can the team take?
This structure mirrors classic storytelling and ensures your audience stays engaged. It’s also a structure that can be applied to both larger scopes, such as a longer presentation, and smaller snippets such as a condensed dashboard
